Terms of Service & Privacy Policy

This document covers both the Terms of Service and the Privacy Policy for the MapleStory GMS Upgrade Tracker service ("we", "the service"), which consists of:

  • the web app at gms-upgrade-tracker.vercel.app, and
  • the companion Discord bot that exposes the same data through slash commands.

Both surfaces are operated by the same maintainer and share one backend. These terms apply whenever you use either surface.

1. Acceptance

By loading the web app, saving or sharing a build, inviting the Discord bot to a server, or invoking any of its commands, you agree to these terms. When you use the Discord bot you also agree to Discord's own Terms of Service and Community Guidelines. Per Discord's rules you must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age required by Discord in your country, whichever is higher) to use the bot.

2. What the service provides

The service is a free gear optimizer for MapleStory GMS. It provides star force, cubing, flame, and scrolling calculators; shared builds keyed by character name; upgrade recommendations ranked by meso efficiency; and a leaderboard of public builds. The Discord bot exposes a read-only subset of these features via slash commands. No command on the bot modifies service data, uploads files, or posts content to other users.

3. Acceptable use

When you use the service, you agree not to:

  • probe, scrape, or overload the service or its API;
  • spam Discord commands in a way that bypasses rate limits or impairs the bot for others;
  • use character-name lookups or leaderboard data to harass, dox, or impersonate other players;
  • submit builds under a character name you do not own with intent to impersonate;
  • attempt to reverse-engineer, exploit, or disrupt the service or any upstream it depends on.

We may rate-limit, block, remove leaderboard entries, or shut off access for accounts and servers that repeatedly violate these rules.

4. Your content

When you save or share a build, you provide a character name (IGN) and encoded gear data. By doing so, you grant us permission to store that data, display it on pages like your shared build page and the leaderboard, and return it through our public API. You represent that you have the right to submit that data — for example, that you are the owner of the in-game character or have that character's owner's permission. You can request removal at any time (see contact below).

5. Data & Privacy

This section is the Privacy Policy portion of this document.

What we store

When you use the web app and save a build, we store:

  • the character name (IGN) you provide, used as the build key;
  • the encoded gear data, selected class, server type, computed power score, and the timestamp of your last update;
  • derived leaderboard and daily snapshot entries keyed by the lowercased IGN.

Shared builds expire approximately 90 days after their last update. Daily snapshots are retained for up to 90 days. Feedback you submit through the in-product feedback widget is stored so we can read and act on it.

What the Discord bot stores

Nothing. When you invoke a command, Discord delivers the interaction payload (your user ID, guild ID, and command arguments) to the bot process, which processes the request in memory and discards it. The bot has no database and does not log interaction payloads. It emits standard operational console output (startup, errors) on the host machine only.

What we send externally

To enrich build pages and bot responses with a character sprite, level, world, and class, the service queries Nexon's public MapleStory ranking API using the IGN you provide. IGNs sent to Nexon are treated as public game information.

Cookies, analytics, ads

The web app uses Vercel Analytics for aggregate, privacy-respecting traffic metrics (no cross-site tracking, no advertising cookies). The Discord bot has no web surface and no analytics. We do not sell your data and do not run ads.

Your rights

You can request deletion of a build you saved, removal from the leaderboard, or a copy of the data we hold about that build by opening an issue at the contact link below. For data routed through Discord (messages, account data), Discord's own privacy controls apply.

6. Third-party services

The service depends on services operated by other parties:

  • Discord — message transport and command delivery for the bot. Governed by Discord's Terms and Privacy Policy.
  • Nexon — source of MapleStory character sprite and ranking data. MapleStory is a Nexon product.
  • Vercel — hosting and analytics for the web app and API.

We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or policies of these third parties.

7. No warranty

The service is provided "AS IS" without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We don't guarantee that the service will be available, accurate, or free of errors. Calculator results and upgrade recommendations are estimates — use your own judgment before committing in-game resources.

8. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by applicable law, the maintainer is not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from your use of the service, including but not limited to lost in-game items, meso, time, or opportunities.

9. Changes

We may update these terms from time to time. The current version lives at this URL. Material changes will be noted in the changelog. Your continued use of the service after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

10. Termination

You can stop using the service at any time — close the tab, or kick the bot from your server. We may block access, remove a build or leaderboard entry, or shut down a surface if these terms are violated or operating the service becomes impractical. These terms survive termination to the extent needed to resolve prior use.

11. Trademark and fan-project disclaimer

MapleStory and all related names, logos, and artwork are trademarks of Nexon Co., Ltd. This service is an unofficial fan project built to help players analyze their own gear. It is not created by, endorsed by, or affiliated with Nexon or any of its subsidiaries. Character sprites and ranking data displayed by the service originate from Nexon's public ranking service.
